Hey, design fam! Amandork here, riding the design wave into Week 3 of the One Room Challenge, and boy, has this been an EPIC rollercoaster of ideas and collaborations.⚡️
So, grab your virtual popcorn, because I've got some exciting updates! Okay, let's rewind a bit. ⏮
I spilled my kitchen struggles on video during Week 2, throwing it all out there on my stories. 😜
And guess what? Stephanie from Stephanie Michelle At Home SWOOPED in with some game-changing ideas when she saw my stories and offered some ideas! I mean, pinch me – she's like my absolute FAVORITE designer on Instagram and she's DMing me. 🤘
Ok ok I did know her from before. We've been VIBING since 2020 when we both birthed our design accounts into the social media universe. 💜
I had reshared her designs I don’t know HOW many times. She's a freakin rockstar and I can’t say enough great things about HER.🎸
Now, here's the backstory – we connected in this fantastic group called "Share Black Spaces." ⭐️
Yeah, I was the token white girl (technically Irish Mexican Mutt haha😂), but let me tell you, surrounded by such incredible, talented designers of color, it was an enlightening and supportive community. 🙌
I was even paired with Stephanie in a Christmas exchange together, becoming not-so-secret Santas, and boy, did we exchange some cute design gifts! 🎁
We hit it off with our similar design styles and the rest is history <3 She’s my all time favorite Instagram Crush.✨
Ok so back then, my fiance and I were nomads, bouncing from one apartment to another.
Design dreams took a back seat because, let's face it, who wants to SPLURGE on decor when you're not sure how long you'll stay in that space?
This made it hard to design something SHOWSTOPPIN.
Fast forward to today, we've planted our roots in this fabulous 1400 sq ft midcentury modern apartment – and oh, the design possibilities!
That’s why I am so excited for the One Room Challenge to help PUSH me to make the time for the never-ending DIY todo lists around the house.
Enter the present day, where Stephanie and I are teaming up for the Spring 2024 One Room Challenge.
The stars have ALIGNED, my friends! ⭐️
We share this love for QUIRKY and BOLD designs, making her the absolute perfect collaborator to bring the kitchen vision that Diana and I cooked up to life.🛠
Our DMs turned into an epic video call, where we dissected every nook and cranny of the kitchen. 🎨
Let me tell you, the excitement levels are off the charts! 📈
With our crazy design brains colliding, I'm confident we'll whip up something so BOLD and fun that it'll be the talk of the gram. 🎉
We both understand the importance of designs that are Insta-worthy – because let's face it, who doesn't want a kitchen that steals the show on social media? 👾
This collaboration is going to be EPIC so stay tuned for Week 4!!📲
If you haven't checked out Stephanie's work yet, do yourself a favor – her Instagram is a design wonderland, and I'm low-key hoping HGTV gives her a show already. 🦖
Trust me, you won't be disappointed. So, buckle up, folks, because this collaboration is about to turn this kitchen makeover into a design spectacle! 🚀💫
Feast your eyes on some of the jaw-dropping ideas Stephanie threw my way. We're still in the playful stages, but this sneak peek is giving me all the feels. ⚡️
The fridge is getting a wallpaper treatment, and we're toying with the idea of a pop of darker blue or emerald. 🧨
Stephanie's all about the bold contrast, but I'm leaning towards keeping it light and bright. ☀️
She's working her magic with the colors – lavender and orange are in the mix, and she's even trying to convince me that coral and navy could be a dynamic duo (and truth be told, they totally are – I'm just not completely sold yet).💣
The debate rages on, but Stephanie's got me contemplating some sophisticated and pretty dark touches. 🎨
Stay tuned to see if I cave! Oh, and those lights – Stephanie found these gorgeous ones that could bid farewell to the old nipple lights. 💡
However, the track lights might have to make an exit too. 😜
But hey, IKEA shades on the track lights could be a game-changer, and it's a DIY project I can totally get behind. 🔧
Just a glass cover removal away from a chic UPGRADE.🍾
So here’s another Jonathan Adler eye candy and this project is more current and modern. I love the coral/blush and purple although his is more mauve and blush tones and we are going for more citrus tones so this isn’t quite it. But that’s ok! We can use a mix of inspiration so we can make our own unique design.
I’m very inspired by the great and king of playful, jonathan adler. This was his barbie project from a long time ago. Very whimsical but we can mimic this feel but bring it into the 2024 color of the year and the ombre vibes with a neon pop.
Now, let's talk VIBES. I'm digging the overall direction, steering clear of dark colors like navy or black. 🎸
Gray is a safe bet, playing nice with peach, purple, coral, white, and beige. The art selections got me reminiscing about some Victorian vibes I've rocked in the past – major win! 🙌
I love the layering of color here so the one wall could be a color, another a different and even ceiling a color to capture this ombre effect. LOVE these colors and the concrete floor shows the gray can play with cream and neural tones.
There's this artist on Society6 that caught my eye; maybe we can weave their magic into the mix. And that neon pop of color with white? 🤔
I'm mulling over where to inject that energy – art or dishware, decisions, decisions.💫
I was impressed by this inspo and it remains one of my faves because it has a subtle pop of neon but cohesive. We will definitley have a lot more going on than this space but its still on the short list for inspo.
Hardware upgrade is a no-brainer, thinking Jonathan Adler vibes – because pretty hardware is a must, especially when paired with that stunning coral color. 👽
But let's talk about the floor – a source of pondering. I'm thinking we prioritize a cool, graphic runner, something that really pops. 💥
The tile, a bit less busy since it'll be partially covered. Abstract shapes in neutral tones, perhaps? And let's not forget the walls and ceiling – different colors for added dimension and depth in this tight galley kitchen.🍴
The neon pop of color with white i think is really the vibe wasn't sure if that would be good on art or the dishware wasn't sure if this was too much lol 😂and we don' want it like CRAZY in your face so thats the tricky party
The excitement is real, folks! 🎊
Week 3 has my design senses tingling, and with Stephanie on board, I'm confident we're cooking up a kitchen that'll be the envy of Instagram. 🖥
Stay tuned for more design shenanigans – it's only going to get more exciting from here! 🎨✨
